Junkyard Quote 1, Week 11

"She's like the Malcom X to his Martin Luther King." -a comment in Hermeneutics

  1. This is an interesting statement as it works together through the contrast. Although both men were different they did share some of the same beliefs, so in this statement I interpreted as two dominate intelligent individuals working towards a greater cause in different directions. It’s kind of like the saying: "opposites attract", a negative and a positive. While Malcolm X believed more in violence to stand up for rights, Dr. King wanted the rights to come without violence. Both wanted the same outcome, with different intentions of working towards it. It’s also interesting that this was said in Hermeneutics, the science of interpretation particularly in Scriptures. It also changes it when the characters are changed from two dominant males, to a dominant woman and a man. It goes against expected perceptions in society. There could potentially be a piece created working against societies expectations with gender roles. I would like to see where this manifests.
